Brian and the Judge

If you're like me, I don't get around much to following internet radio, Sirius and regular radio keep me more than satisfied. Recently, I started looking around the Fox news podcasts and discovered a hidden treasure.
I don't always like Fox news. Up until about a year ago, Yahoo was my news source. But I actually tuned into Glenn Beck on the recommendation of another great podcast, Wall Street Unspun's Peter Schiff and liked the take on politics and the news. A frequent guest to the show is Judge Andrew Napolitano.
Judge Napolitano hosts the show Brian and the Judge with Brian from Fox and Friends and it is a great show. I can truly say it's one of the few places that you can get a great political discussion from all sides without anyone leaving angry (most times) or upset.
Judge Napolitano, who also hosts the excellent Freedom Watch presents the news of the day and discusses with callers and Brian. Brian is primarily Republican leaning and the Judge is libertarian leaning so it's incredibly interesting to listen to these similar but different men talk about their opinions of the day.
They have amazing guests such as Karl Rove, Geraldo Rivera and Jesse Ventura to name a few. It's one of the most educational podcasts that you can find if you're trying to examine the issues from all sides. If you have internet radio, you can catch the show at foxnewstalk.com from 8am to 11am CST.

Great Podcast

Recently I got turned on to the awesome Freedom Watch program that Fox does. It airs Wednesdays at 1PM, central and features prominent politicians and people of the day that are "freedom oriented". Peter Schiff, Ron Paul, Daniel Hannan and Glenn Beck have appeared on the show in the past and it's always an excellent exchange of ideas, not just a discussion of who's right or who's wrong.
Shelly Roche from Break the Matrix moderates tweets to Judge Napolitano regarding questions and comments about the news today. Every show is interesting and gives you a fresh outlook on what you may have missed in the "mainstream media". If you can't watch the show live, Itunes is now offering an audio podcast that normally is available 24 hours or so after the show airs.
Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

My two new listens

Hi everyone! School got in my way of blogging over the past 2 weeks, in the meantime I picked up two new albums. They are Ida Maria and Decemberists.
If you've been missing your punk girl pop then you will want to check out Ida Maria. I first heard her on All Songs Considered with her song "I Like You So Much Better". It is a great totally catchy pop song that you will find yourself humming and getting stuck in your head. I really hope she makes it big. I am going to cover the Decemberists tomorrow!

Kelly Clarkson- Ready

A little quick mini-blog, last week I got Kelly Clarkson's new album "All I Ever Wanted". I am very happy to report, the album is fantastic. I love (LOVE) Breakway and her first album Thankful. This album maintains Kelly's pop sound and great vocals but allows her to have the artistic direction she had on My December.
The biggest stand out track for me is "Ready", this song is a huge surprise at the end of the album. Kind of a retro vibe permeates through this song ala a Duffy/Adele vibe. It's positive, infectious and just made for radio. It's about being ready for life and it's changes.
Currently, it's one of my heavily rotated songs on my IPOD and a definite must-have download for 2009.

Guiding Light

Okay guilty pleasure time. I am a HUGE Guiding Light fan. Much like my Utah Jazz babies, the show has had their ups and downs. Moments of greatness and moments you wanted to close your eyes. But here lately the show has been so good!

My favorite storyline right now is of course, the return of Phillip Spaulding (Grant Aleksander). I would say I'm a Phillip fan but not a huge fan. But boy, you don't realize what you had until he came back. One of the most dynamic characters ever to grace Springfield, his presence has been sorely missed. I actually only knew Phillip through his budding relationship with Harley so when Beth came back to mess them up I didn't care for her or Lizzie.

Beth has actually grown up and I think she's way more interesting as a law student than a stay at home mom. He has links with characters that are vastly underused on the show- Blake, Rick, Alex to name a few. His relationship with Lizzie has been sad and real.

Long story short, if you haven't turned in to the show recently, you are missing out! Come back to the light!

My First Music Review- U2

U2- No Line on the Horizon

**I intended to publish this earlier, like last week but school got the better of me and had to do that**

My current 5 favorite U2 songs- Mysterious Ways, Beautiful Day, Sweetest Thing, Desire, Vertigo

I would say I'm a fan of U2. Seeing them in concert is definitely on my things to do before I die list. I have many of their albums but I mainly know their singles the best. I know there are some diehards out there that can list all of their albums and songs probably (I'm like that for Billy Joel but not U2). I purchased this album mainly because it's 3.99 at Amazon currently and figured since it's U2, it's probably a decent listen.

Track 1- No Line on the Horizon: Interesting opener. Almost sounds like 2 songs mashed up together. A song about a girl who changes like the sea. Since this is the first song from this album I've listened to, I think this is probably a song to show the feel of the album. 5/10

Track 2- Magnificent: Theme of this song is "only love can leave such a mark". A pretty decent song and definitely much better, in my opinion than the latest alterna-pop offerings that I hear on the radio nowadays. 6/10

Track 3- Moment of Surrender: From my first listen of this song, this is definitely the most interesting opener I've heard so far. Bono for me is best either with a slow song "With or Without You" or all rocked out "Mysterious Ways". One thing I've liked about this album so far is that it's the perfect mix of their past album "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" and the current wave of artists such as Daughtry, Secondhand Serenade. Features a fantastic guitar solo. I would say one of my favorites of the album so far. 7/10

Track 4- Unknown Caller: Okay this album is seriously growing on me. The chorus with an actual chorus, is great. Definitely makes you take notice of the song. I was actually surfing the Internet when this came on and had to go back and add this in. Great lyrics too:

Restart and re-boot yourself

You’re free to go

Oh, oh

Shout for joy if you get the chance

Password, you, enter here, right now

If you're thinking about downloading some of the songs from this album, this would be a great one to add to your IPOD. 10/10

Track 5- I'll Go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight: First of all, love the name. I would say out of all the songs this is the one that's closest to their previous material. Overall a solid 10/10.

Track 6- Get on Your Boots: Okay the verses in this song seriously remind me of the Escape Club's "Wild Wild West". This song is multi-layered- I hear Beatles, Rolling Stones and even a trace of Sheryl Crow. Sometimes I'm not a huge fan of the order albums end up in, I'm actually still thinking about "Unknown Caller". 8/10.

Track 7- Stand Up Comedy: I actually thought the title was a joke when I first saw it. I actually am a fan of these dissociative type songs like Sheryl Crow's "Na-Na Song". A more standard U2 song than some of the other previous songs. "Stand Up". 8/10

Track 8- Fez- Being Born: Okay first of all, this song is already weird for me because when I hear the word Fez I think that 70's show. This song sounds more like an interlude than an actual song. 5/10

Track 9- White as Snow: Very melancholy song, typical of the older U2 stuff. Has a very haunting melody. Definitely one of the more symphonic songs on the album. 8/10

Track 10- Breathe: Very chaotic with its almost rapping verses. Reminds me of a "I am the Walrus" for the 2000's. 7/10

Track 11- Cedars of Lebanon: Reminscent of "One" by U2, more political than a lot of the other songs on the album. Definitely a song that you would see making a best of list. I tend to veer more towards poppier songs but it's a great song. 9/10.

The First Post!

I figured for my first blog, I would give you a little insight into me and my interests so you can know what kind of things I would be covering. I would say music is definitely my first love. I primarily follow more pop music but in recent years have grown to love indie music just as much. Currently, my album obssession is Vampire Weekend's latest album. I will also be covering music from other genres as I find them.
Movies are definitely my second love. I love going as much as I can and keeping up with both mainstream and indie movies. Being in Texas, it's a little difficult to get to an indie movie but I try as much as possible. The last movie I saw was "He's Just Not That Into You".
TV shows that are currently can't miss TV for me- Big Love, Flight of the Conchords, Gossip Girl, House, 24, Secret Life of the American Teenager, American Idol and 30 Rock.
My goal for this blog is to create a place for people to come who want to get the average person's view on a CD or a movie or to discover something that maybe they're missing.
I'm hoping to get the first official post up today with the review of the latest U2 album so please come back to check it out. You can also follow me and my randomness at Twitter @jazzgirl4.
